PUTRAJAYA, 19 April 2013 –The UK Regional Director for Southeast Asia Science and Innovation, Mr. Matt Crossman, this morning briefed YBhg. Dato’ Dr.Madinah Mohamad, Secretary General of MOSTIon the latest progress of the UK-Malaysia Joint Statementon Science, Engineering and Technology. The Joint Statement was issued in Kuala Lumpur on 7 October 2011 by Professor Sir John Beddington, the UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser and Professor Emeritus Datuk Seri Zakri Abdul Hamid, the Science Adviser to the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
He reported that to date, a total of thirteen (13) workshops, reciprocal visits, public lectures and travel grants had beensupported and funded by the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. They include:
During the discussion, Mr. Crossman also agreed to consider collaboration with AkademiSains Malaysia (ASM) in conducting a workshop on innovation during the WIFKL 2013. Both sides also agreed topursue new collaboration on science communication and aquaculture.
Mr. Crossman also revealed that this year’s UK Government’s Chevening Scholarships Programme is able to offer additional 14 scholarships, specifically to meet UK’s science and innovation priorities in Malaysia and the current focus of Malaysia on technology and innovation.
